What does an Independent Reviewing Officer do at Hillingdon?
- To comply with statutory guidance, current legislation and the IRO Handbook by providing independent chairing of reviews of looked after children, and to attend and participate in meetings relevant to the care and decision making for children and young people.
- To be responsible for chairing Child Protection Conferences.
- To ensure that the views of children, young people and parents are heard and given due attention and to ensure that children, parents and young people actively participate in these processes.
- To assist the Safeguarding Manager in the quality assurance of Child Protection work and Children Looked After work through monitoring and auditing.
- To produce accurate records of these reviews and conferences. Following the review to monitor and audit cases, ensuring the regular review and monitoring of individual care plans and child protection plans and the achievement of appropriate and timely outcomes for children and young people.
- To act as consultant to managers, social work staff and other agencies about policy, procedure and practice relating to safeguarding and Children Looked After with the aim of providing direction and guidance to ensure standards are maintained and procedures adhered to.
- To ensure the implementation of care plans and child protection plans thorough monitoring and liaison with social workers and managers and to use the escalation procedure as and when required.

You will be Degree level qualified with relevant professional qualification or equivalents eg Diploma in Social Work and registered with SW England. You will have at least 5 years’ management experience, ideally with a management qualification or with the willingness to undertake such qualifications to enhance your knowledge of the role.
