**Summary of the Role**:Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and breakdown maintenance to all aspects of electrical plant, distribution and equipment including work of a technical and/or non-routine nature. Perform duties covering the testing and fault finding on a wide range of electrical engineering plant and equipment, including but not restricted to; electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control & automation, standby generators, laundry equipment, nurse call systems, data communications, steam raising plant and associated equipment, kitchen equipment and theatre ventilation services.

This post will require post holder to take part in an on call rota system where there may be mínimal supervision, covering all of the properties maintained by QE facilities outside of normal working hours.

In addition to maintenance & emergency repairs the post holder will be required to carry out minor installation & improvements works across all of QE Facilities’ contracted sites. All work must be carried out in compliance with organisational & customer safety standards and national legislation.

Undertake essential repair work and general maintenance activities at the request of the engineering supervisor.

All work must be carried out in compliance with QE Facilities safety standard and all national legislation The post holder must be fully aware of their health & safety responsibilities relating to their work and possess sufficient technical knowledge to avoid any danger to themselves, colleagues, hospital staff, patients and members of the public.

Must be able to provide training to non-technical staff to enable the safe use of complex hospital equipment. Must participate in training apprentices as and when required

**Base / Location**:Darlington Memorial Hospital (can be required to carry out work at any other QE Facilities contracted site)

To respond to requests for repairs, faults and emergencies involving all aspects of electrical, mechanical & building services - The post holder will be required to assess the situation in the event of such requests or emergency situations and as a first measure, act to ensure safety of public/patients/other staff then to either affect repairs or summon assistance as required.

QE Facilities operates a multi skilled policy and the post holder is required to demonstrate a high degree of cross trade flexibility beyond the boundaries of their core skills including Mechanical and Building Maintenance works supported with in-house training. The post holder will be expected to carry out minor mechanical/building work, in connection with their main duties at the discretion of the supervising officer, which, under extreme conditions shall include gritting and snow clearing.

Actively participate in the operation of the QE Facilities helpdesk, including the timely completion of work dockets via a PDA (hand held computer) this includes job sheets with a Tradesman’s report detailing time taken and materials used for costing purposes.

The Post holder shall be occasionally required to work overtime, possibly with mínimal notice, to carry out works in places not available during normal hours in order to ensure operational activities are maintained.

Carry business / QEF communication devices pagers, two way radios or mobile phones to enable post holder to be contacted by supervisor.

Respond to fire alarms as part of the site fire team and to Lift Passenger release.

Undertake the maintenance repair and installation equipment at the request of engineering officer and or maintenance supervisor, liaise with engineering officer on plant failures request supply of goods or services required to rectify any breakdowns.

Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspection and testing in accordance with company & customer procedures and manufacturers specifications.

Responsible for reporting to supervisor any faults or misuse of equipment.

Attend plant specific off-site and on-site training courses such as “sterilizers, washer disinfector’s medical gas competent persons” and other courses as required by the business.

Must be able to provide training to non-technical staff to enable the safe use of complex hospital equipment. Must participate in training apprentices as and when required

Complete reports and test sheets when required.

Undertake fault finding responsibilities on complex Electrical/Mechanical equipment where concentration is required to carry out effective repair for long periods.
