Job overview
To participate in the provision of medical equipment acquisition approvals and commissioning within Clinical Engineering at Nottingham University
Hospitals NHS Trust. This will include the identification, acquisition, planning, commissioning, deployment and management of new and
replacement devices following a strict compliant acquisition and approval process prior to adoption of equipment.
The post holder will work as part
of a larger team to process complex device information of both clinical and technical natures.
The post holder must have the ability to
communicate with NHS and medical device industry stakeholders to help support the Medical Equipment Planning Unit (MEPU) team activity. The post holder will be based at the QMC Campus but may be required to work at other locations.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be bound by relevant professional standards and Trust policies in performing the duties of their post.
The postholder will be required to use computing and VDU equipment for significant periods of time on most days.

The postholder will frequently have to concentrate for prolonged periods when working on, for example, the acquisition approval and/or
commissioning of complex medical equipment.

The Medical Equipment Planning Unit (MEPU) is a hard working and dynamic team within Clinical Engineering, responsible for ensuring the
clinical teams receive the medical equipment technology they require efficiently and that the equipment is managed safely over its lifetime in order
to support the delivery of high quality patient care.
The postholder will benefit from working centrally to a multi-disciplinary Clinical Engineering
department and will be continuously exposed to the latest medical equipment technologies.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Honours degree in Clinical Technology/Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
- Registered Clinical Technologist.
Experience
Essential criteria
- 3 years experience as a Technologist
Physical Skills
Essential criteria
- Advanced keyboard skills
- Driving Licence
Experience
Essential criteria
- Specialist knowledge on the maintenance and repair of a range of highly complex medical devices
- Knowledge of MMD Jan 2021, ISO 9001 200, COSHH.
- Advance knowledge of mechanical and /or electrical and electronic engineering.
Communication & Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate complex information across professional boundaries.
- Able to deliver training to groups of other professional staff.
- Able to deliver teaching and training on complex equipment to other professional groups (e.g. train nurses in medical device use).
- Good negotiation skills.
- Able to deal with complex and unpredictable situations.
Analytical & Judgment Skills
Essential criteria
- Analysis and interpretation of engineering test results.
- Able to provide assistance and advice to technicians in the diagnosis and reification of faults.
Physical Skills
Essential criteria
- Colour vision
- Able to calibrate and test equipment with small margins of error
- Able to lift items up to 15kg
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Extensive additional theoretical knowledge acquired through CPD (professional short courses, personal study, conferences)
- Expert in the use of Excel, Word etc

- Experience in fault diagonosis

- Able to make recommendations on complex medical equipment
- Interpretation of legislation/policy/complex test results where there is no precedent
