Our Group Head Office, located in Woolsington, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, is looking to recruit a Group Head of Sustainability to join our Commercial team. The Group Head of Sustainability reports to the Group Production Managing Director.

**The Role**

The role of Group Head of Sustainability is responsible for effectively leading and managing the Group’s new approach to Sustainability 'Better with Bellway’ (BwB). They will develop and deliver a national strategy to ensure that sustainability is at theheart of our business as BwB embodies our approach to responsible and sustainable business practice. You’ll be part of the leadership team and steering group to help deliver our new strategy, this will include co-opting business sponsors to assist with deliveryof various internal and external KPI’s and targets. Bellway only launched this new strategy earlier this year, our new sustainable approach is not just an add-on, it’s a key part of our overall business strategy and what we are looking to do daily, 'puttingpeople and the planet first’. **Principle Accountabilities**
- Oversee and develop the 'Better with Bellway’ sustainability strategy, liaising with senior leaders, functional heads and business sponsors to ensure the strategic aims are being met
- Provide expertise and support to the BwB leadership team, as well as chairing the BwB steering group and Business Sponsors group, presenting reports, providing progress updates and seeking members’ views as needed
- Work with the Group Communications function to communicate BwB aims and performance across the business and to relevant external stakeholders, placing sustainability as a cornerstone of our construction business model and raising awareness of the valueand public benefits arising from our BwB strategy
- Ensure that Bellway’s key sustainability policies and programmes are up to date with legislation and best-practice, and are fully implemented across all the Company’s operations
- Provide regular progress updates & presentations to the board on our BwB strategy, working closely with the Group Production Managing Director
- Support the Group Head of Health and Safety to deliver ISO 14001 accreditation into the business
- Produce Bellway’s carbon footprints (Scopes 1, 2 and 3), including managing the external verification process and reporting progress against our science-based targets, working with Group Technical & Innovations Manager
- Maintain an overview of Bellway’s waste performance at a divisional level, consolidating divisional reports into a group-wide summary, and ensure that the group waste reduction policies are being implemented and waste levels are reducing in line with BwBtargets
- Work with the Group Head of Biodiversity to ensure the various biodiversity projects are delivering the required benefits, including 'biodiversity net gain’ on sites, delivering of the Tiny Forests programme and the development of our partnership with TheRivers Trust
- Work with the Finance, Co Sec and Risk departments to deliver the appropriate sustainability reporting elements for the annual report, including the TCFD reporting and disclosures
- Deliver responses to various ESG investor programmes, including but not limited to the Carbon Disclosure Project’s 'Climate Change’ and 'Forest’ submissions
- Produce the company’s annual 'economic impact’ database and seek to develop this to into a more detailed report, incorporating 'monetised’ social and community benefits

**Role Requirement's**
- A University degree in a relevant field (or equivalent) is preferable (e.g., environmental science, biology, sustainability)
- Work experience in the field of sustainability or a related area of work
- Experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders
- Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures and proven ability to work in MS Windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Teams etc)
- Proven analytical, conceptual, organisation, and problem-solving skills
- Detail and outcome oriented, with a strong ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs
- A team player with a track record of working effectively with colleagues at all levels

**Experience**
- Extensive experience working at a senior level within the sustainability (or related) function managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders
- Experience of the housebuilding or wider construction industry would be a benefit
- A good level of knowledge and understanding of existing and emerging environmental legislation as it applied to sustainability, resource efficiency, carbon footprinting and supply chain engagement

**Qualifications and Training**
- A University degree (or equivalent) preferable, in a relevant field such as environmental science, biology or sustainability
- Current full driving licence
