JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Student Mentor Internship role is a twelve-month paid Internship to begin during March 2023, supported by the Jack Petchey Foundation. You must be ready to take up the post by 27 March 2023.

As part of this role, you will be part of the Jack Petchey Internship Programme with 30 other interns from different youth organisations in London and Essex. This development programme will involve you attending a launch conference, four professional development workshops through the year and a celebration event at the end of the programme. You will receive an extra training bursary of £1,000 for approved training. You will also be matched with a mentor from another organisation to support you in your professional development. The Jack Petchey Internship Programme training and events will take place in person in London, and you will be expected to take full part in this programme alongside your role at City Gateway.

**Job purpose**

As a Student Mentor, you will work closely with the Coaching and Education Teams and Designated Safeguarding Leads, as well as directly with learners aged 16-24 on our Education and Training Programme. You will help to remove barriers to disadvantaged young people’s progression to a sustainable employment, education or training outcome through the provision of mentoring and advocacy. Acting as a key point of contact for the learners, alongside the wider team, you will lead on implementing our trauma-informed approach, working with learners to empathise with and understand their starting points and needs, and communicating these to the wider team to enable an effective, joined-up response to meet these needs.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Support learners to engage with one another in positive peer networks, as well as with external partners during enrichment and extra-curricular activities such as events and field trips.
- Working alongside our Student Ambassador and Student Representatives, act as a Representative on our Learner Voice Forum.
- Act as a ‘buddy’ to provide support and reassurance to learners when participating in multi-agency support meetings with City Gateway and other stakeholders.
- Conduct research on local support and specialist services available in learners’ boroughs to support in the making of referrals to enable wrap-around support when a learner is not at City Gateway.
- Feedback on the learner experience at monthly All Staff Huddles.
- Provide support to learners and Tutors in classroom settings including through:

- Revising learned lesson material with learners in individual or group settings

Supporting Tutors with learners facing challenges
Supporting in exams e.g. support to Tutors in implementing speaking and listening exams, invigilating and supporting learners to remain calm during exams
Updating and signposting students with information and supporting with queries such as bursaries, jobs and Apprenticeships.
Support the wider team during recruitment and enrolment onto all City Gateway programmes.
- Actively follow City Gateway Policies.
- Participate in developing and implementing own Personal Development Plans, accessing provided training and support as part of Continual Professional Development to develop knowledge and skills to deliver the role more effectively.
- Work closely with the Head of Education and Inclusion to ensure that teaching and learning is judged Good or Outstanding by Ofsted.
- Other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as requested by the line manager or Senior Leadership Team.
