We’re looking for a Team Leader to lead a team of technical experts to protect communities from flooding.

East Anglia is already experiencing water and environmental stress. Combined with climate change and housing and infrastructure growth, we have a challenging need but also opportunity to deliver flood risk (alongside wider environmental) benefits in partnership with a range of different organisations.

This role involves:

- Line management of ~10 team members.
- Leadership of a wider team to support our work, centred around growth and infrastructure, to protect communities and bring about flood resilience improvements.
- Engagement with Risk Management Authorities, communities, delivery partners and other Environment Agency teams.
- Driving continuous improvements in how we work
- Contributing to leadership team of the wider department

There are also opportunities to get involved with various national and area-based initiatives and networks, and to play a role responding to a range of environmental incidents.

We have adopted new ways of working which allows flexibility to work from home, but you'll be required to attend your base location at one of our area offices on a regular basis. Particular working patterns can be agreed on an individual basis.

The team
The role is hosted in the East Anglian Partnership & Strategic Overview team which covers the Great Ouse catchment. The team helps to reduce the risk of flooding to communities with the greatest need.

The team has a range of flood risk responsibilities including influencing new development through spatial planning; regulating works on or near main rivers, supporting the development of local strategies, delivering capital projects and working in partnership with communities and other organisations.

Experience/skills required
We are looking for an experienced, people focused leader who can inspire, develop and motivate people to deliver and work well as a team and someone who will actively collaborate with others to deliver even better outcomes than we could as a single organisation.

Ideally, having experience working at a local and national level, you’ll have experience in influencing and developing organisational approaches and leading through change. The role requires someone with a farsighted strategic outlook coupled with the ability to manage here and now delivery.

As an accomplished communicator, you’ll have a range of experience of working with diverse partners and customers, having difficult conversations and being resilient in the face of challenge.

Ideally you’ll be a chartered professional of a relevant professional body or actively working towards this goal.

A full UK driving license is essential.
