The Joint Maritime Security Centre [JMSC] is the name given to UK’s cross government organisation for maritime security. The Joint Maritime Security Centre provides expert, independent advice, and support to government (including the Devolved Administrations and Crown Dependencies) on maritime security, including maritime related threat, operational capability and response mechanisms.

The Joint Maritime Security Centre is formed of two operational pillars - the JMSC Operations Centre and the National Maritime Information Centre.

The JMSC Operations Centre provides 24/7 awareness of the UK’s maritime asset distribution and ensures a coordinated and whole-system response to maritime security incidents at sea. The Operations Centre also contributes to the integrity of UK waters and the mitigation of threats at sea by informing operational decision making. On behalf of government, the Operations Centre also owns multi-agency Concept of Operations and Playbooks and delivers a joint exercising calendar.

The National Maritime Information Centre is a multi-agency construct that enables joint operational activity, information sharing & collaboration, and contributes to the UK’s maritime domain awareness and understanding of maritime threats at home and overseas.
- The Joint Maritime Security Centre is led by a Head of JMSC who is accountable to the Joint Governance Board comprising sponsors from Home Office, Department for Trade and Ministry of Defence. The work of the Joint Maritime Security Centre falls into three categories, as follows:
- Business as Usual [BAU] maritime security focused operational activities
- Supporting cross government development of maritime security strategy
- International engagement

Watch Supervisors and Watchkeepers monitor the UK Maritime Area, and increasingly international waters, developing, and maintaining situational awareness and coordinating the information response to any maritime security issues that may occur in a calm efficient manner. Watch Supervisors will need to conduct rudimentary first-line analysis of products before dissemination.

This includes utilising the following systems to build a comprehensive picture of the UK Maritime Area, and on occasion internationally:

- Maritime Trade Information System (MTIS).
- Recognised Maritime Picture (RMP).
- TELESTO (operating platform) Web Viewer.
- Computer Aided Maritime Threat Evaluation Software (CAMTES).
- Shared Hosting Environment

Please note this role is offered on a full-time shift basis only, working a shift pattern covering 24/7, 365 days a year. Hybrid working is not an option.

**Responsibilities**:
Duties include but are not limited to:

- Liaise across partner agencies to coordinate responses to maritime security threats.
- Contribute to formulating response to maritime security issues and risks, assisting in the coordination of surface assets and aerial surveillance tasked to domestic maritime security activity.
- Provide 24/7 monitoring of the UK’s marine domain for possible legal infringements and emerging incidents.
- Provide reporting to partner agencies across Government, and occasionally internationally, to assist with analysis, enforcement, and incident response.
- Monitor social media and news sources for early identification of potential threats.
- Assist with production of business continuity and resilience plans for JMSC.
- Any other tasks that are required for the delivery of the JMSC operations function.
