**Business Lecturer Job Description**

**Purpose**

Working closely with the Academic Lead and Head of Higher Education, the Business Tutor is responsible for supporting the development of Students by designing and developing learning/teaching, material for use at the College. They will ensure effective and efficient delivery of the programme in accordance with the colleges strategies, policies and procedures. The post holder will contribute to own training and learning. The post holder will also be expected to support the development of the research wing at the institution.

**Roles & Responsibilities**

Ø Use appropriate learning, teaching[1], support and assessment methods.

Ø Manage assessment instruments and criteria

Ø Supervise student coursework and the academic elements of placements,

Ø Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.

Ø Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.

Ø Ensure that module design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the College and FHEQ.

Ø Engage in scholarship as required to support teaching activities and continually update knowledge.

Ø Engage in collaborative partnerships and contribute to the Colleges work in influencing leading edge practice.

Ø As module leader co-ordinate with others (such as support staff or academic colleagues) to ensure student needs and expectations are met.

Ø Manage projects relating to own area of work and the organisation of external activities such as placements and field trips.

Ø Mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development

Ø Co-ordinate the work of others to ensure modules are delivered and assessments administered to the standards required.

Ø Be responsible for pastoral care of students within a specified area.

Ø Act as personal tutor, giving first-line support and mentoring to students.

Ø Appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances.

Ø Use listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students and provide support.

Ø Refer students as appropriate to services providing further support.

Ø Be responsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, timetabling, examinations, and assessment of student attendance, performance and progress.

Ø Conduct academic interviews for new applicants as and when required

Ø Work with the Academic Lead and Head of Higher Education to support student learning experience

Ø Work with the Academic Lead with professional development opportunities for own learning

Ø Work collaboratively with academic colleagues to share and create good practice guidance in curriculum and assessment design

Ø Aid the Academic Development Lead to facilitate the delivery of events and workshops to support the curriculum and academic staff development activity, where required

Ø To support the College in the design, development and continuous improvement of teaching material and styles

Ø To develop, and sustain a dialogue with Year Leads and Academic Lead in the area of curriculum design and programme development to effectively support module and course teams, and education priorities.

Ø Sharing good practice within Academic Development, across the wider College and externally.

**Other Responsibilities**

Ø Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required by the Head of HE and/or Academic Lead, including contributing to the development of plans and support policy development and implementation.

Ø Engaging with professional groups and communities of practice, and embodying high standards of inclusivity and professional integrity.

Ø To agree objectives and targets in accordance with college priorities.

Ø To participate in professional/academic associations and develop and participate in external networks.

Ø To maintain professional standards in relationships, including non-discriminatory practices.

Ø To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required, including administrative duties appropriate to the role.
