Independent Monitoring Board Volunteer- Hmp Hull
6 months ago
We are looking for members to Join the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Hull. The IMB helps to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. Applicants do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support. Our members are a team of ordinary people doing an extraordinary role: independent monitors in prisons and immigration detention. All our members are unpaid public appointees, appointed by Ministers.
You will see how staff relate to prisoners and those in detention, and what processes there are for supporting and rehabilitating individuals. You’ll monitor day-to-day life in a prison. You could be talking to prisoners, checking that they’re being given access to healthcare and training.
This is an unpaid, voluntary role, but we pay your travel expenses and in certain circumstances, some loss of earnings and childcare/carer costs.
The time commitment is approximately 3 visits per month and attendance at a monthly board meeting.
