Medical Summariser

We are looking for a Medical Summariser to join our friendly and supportive team to undertake the summarising of patient records according to set protocols which have been agreed by the Practice, on to the medical clinical system (EMIS), following various coding rules.
The postholder will be adaptable and comfortable with changing priorities, they must be a team player and have an understanding of confidentiality and the ability to use own judgment.
Overview of roles and responsibilities:
- Summarising existing patient records.
- Summarising new patient records to a high standard and within agreed timescales based on Practice procedures.
- Restructuring existing computerised notes.
- Produce a comprehensive electronic summary using EMIS.
- Maintaining structure when recording new information.
- Assisting GPs with queries relating to medical records.
- To work as a member of the clinical coding team, with responsibility for own areas, inputting coded data into the Patient Administration System. Coding from information gathered from a number of sources including patient notes, discharge forms, both manual and electronic, and other clinical information captured on a variety of sources. This will also involve running computer searches on to identify missing information.
- To work with other administrators and healthcare professionals to provide a first-class service to our patients.
- To ensure clinical coding is recorded in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with both national and the Practice guidelines and standards
- To maintain clinical coding skills and participate in internal and external training programmes as required for both refresher and specialist clinical coding courses and work toward a high standard of coding.
- To extract, interpret and independently code clinical information from clinical letters and Discharge summaries from Hospitals and Clinics
- To participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas where the processes used within the coding function can be improved and assist in implementing.
- To feedback coding information to senior management and to improve the quality and completeness of documents or clinical notes.
- Provide the first point of contact for patients and other stakeholders/visitors (either face to face or on the telephone) and provide administrative support.
- To work in accordance with the service specification and clinical key performance indicators.
- To work In line with national, local and organisational priorities in order to affect good access for patients and to maximize activity and opportunity.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Excellent communicator both spoken and written.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Competent EMIS User - Advantage
- Must be able to work within processes/procedures.
- Should be personable, polite and patient. Needs to have an empathy with patients, some of whom may not be so patient or polite because of anxiety.
- Needs to be able to remain calm in fraught circumstances.
- Needs to maintain confidentiality and data security.
- Medical knowledge desirable
**Salary**: £12.10 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
