Senior Planning Policy Officer - Ref: EE03323 - (230000AU)

Description

**Senior Planning Policy Officer - Ref: EE03323**
- **£36,298 - £41,496 per annum**

We are looking for an adept and highly motivated individual to join our Planning Policy Team within the Planning & Building Control Service area.

Walsall is proud of its past, present and future. The borough has a rich history and a bright future, and we are looking for an individual to help deliver that vision through a strategic and spatial planning, and placemaking focus.

Walsall Council has been awarded £11.4m from the Future High Street Fund Programme to help deliver a Connected Gateway project to enable the delivery of two of the Town Centre Masterplan projects; Transforming the Rail Station and Connected Hubs, and Walsall and Bloxwich town areas stand to benefit from £21.3m each of Town Deal funding through the Towns Fund Programme to deliver urban regeneration, green transport and economic growth outcomes. Walsall has also secured £20m of Levelling Up Fund Round 2 (LUFR2) for Willenhall. The development of Willenhall Garden City in Walsall will be accelerated by this grant, which will play a key role in unlocking a £210 million regeneration plan, enabling the delivery of new homes, parks, and a railway station.

This is an exciting time to join Walsall as we embark on the preparation of the Walsall Borough Local Plan, through which we are intending to review our existing suite of development plans, as well as planning for growth through the delivery of new housing, employment opportunities and sustainable infrastructure, and addressing important planning related issues such as climate change and the health and well-being of our communities.

You should be able to demonstrate relevant experience, or an understanding of planning policy, and have a passion, vision and enthusiasm for this field of planning. You are also expected to have excellent communication and customer service skills. The role includes providing advice in respect of planning policy and guidance to stakeholders, including Members, and to follow statutory procedures and local practice to achieve corporate objectives.

The role includes responsibility to review, monitor and prepare documents that form part of the statutory Development Plan and other planning and regeneration related documents and guidance as required. To undertake work on one or more planning policy specialisms and lead on creating and reviewing planning policy and preparing and writing reports/briefs in order to represent the Planning Policy Team at committee, project steering group boards and other stakeholder groups. Also, to represent Walsall on planning policy issues at the national, regional and sub-regional levels, including commenting on draft national planning policy, and contributing to representations on the development plans of other local authorities and development proposals in surrounding areas that would have implications for the Borough. Also, supporting the Planning Service at public inquiries/examinations including giving evidence on planning policy matters as required. Good presentation skills as well as organisational and IT skills are key to this role.

The salary range is £36,298 to £41,496.

We are committed to attracting and retaining the very best staff and utilising all the talent and experience available. We recognise the importance of helping our employees balance their work and home life by offering flexible working arrangements that enable them to balance their working life with other priorities. Walsall Council also supports employee learning and career development.

Benefits include:

- Flexible working hours
- Blended working from home/office
- Membership of Local Government Pension Scheme
- Generous annual leave and flexi leave entitlement plus Bank Holidays

THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT, PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY.

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The postholder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
