**What is a cadetship?**

Here’s the basics.

A cadetship is a sponsored training programme which involves combining formal training and qualifications with practical on-the-job experience. Here at James Fisher, you will spend 3 years on our Cadetship programme studying for a formal qualification with Fleetwood Nautical College as well as spend phases of time at sea onboard our vessel

You will be responsible for the operational management of our vessels and be accountable for maintaining personal, health, safety and environmental standards on board. You will learn how to take personal emergency action on board a vessel as well how to respond to emergencies including how to control of survival craft and rescue boats.

As part of your studies, your training programme will typically last for approximately 3 years. Your course will be structured in ‘Phases’. These phases tend to last up to 6 months.

You will typically spend Phase 1, 3 and 5 of your training programmes based at Fleetwood Nautical College. Now, please don’t worry if you do not live near the college, as we will pay for all your accommodation and food costs whilst there in their purpose-built Cadet Accommodation alongside all of your travel to and from college at the start and end of term

Phases 2 and 4 will be spent at sea onboard our tankers. Our fleet trade along the UK and Northern European Coastline, even trading in the Caribbean We will fully pay for your travel to and from our vessels and all food during your sea phases
