**Job summary**:
The DLUHC Wales Team are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Deputy Area Lead. The Wales Team co-ordinates the delivery of over £1.5bn of DLUHC investment across several flagship Levelling Up programmes, all of which aim to drive economic growth and bring prosperity to places across Wales.

You will support the co-ordination of Levelling Up activity within a specific region in Wales, working closely with local partners to support and facilitate the delivery of funding and maximise its impact. You will also use your local knowledge and insights from your relationships with stakeholders to support policy teams across DLUHC and the UK Government to make effective policy and funding decisions for Wales.

Within your region, you will support with the delivery of a range of funds including the Levelling Up Fund, UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Freeports, Investment Zones, the Long-Term Plan for Towns, and the Community Ownership Fund, with the opportunity to regularly visit projects. You will also support the team on broader issues that are important to the economy of Wales, as well as promoting Wales’ role within a prosperous UK through supporting UK Government’s vision to deliver for citizens across Wales.

**Job description**:
As a Deputy Area Lead you will be expected to:

- Work with your Area Lead (Grade 7) to co-ordinate the delivery of Levelling Up funding within a specific region in Wales.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local authorities, providing support and acting as a critical friend on the delivery of Levelling Up funding activity. You will also engage with a wide range of local stakeholders.
- Participate in regular visits to DLUHC funded projects with the aim of understanding how projects are progressing and to engage with local partners. This will likely include visits alongside Ministers and senior stakeholders.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with policy officials within DLUHC and from across the UK Government, working closely with central policy teams to resolve delivery risks and issues.
- Develop strong local knowledge of your specific region within Wales, as well as developing a broader understanding of Wales’ politics and economy. You will use your knowledge to help inform the way DLUHC delivers it’s Levelling Up agenda within Wales.
- Prepare high quality briefing materials for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants to support their engagement with a network of stakeholders in Wales, including the Welsh Government. This includes providing support for ministerial visits, key events and the rollout of press and publicity campaigns.
- Support DLUHC policy teams to develop insight to inform future local growth funding which may come forward for Wales as the current portfolio of funds and projects come to a close.
- In addition to your main responsibilities within your specific region, you will work flexibly to support the broader team in other tasks as they arise including economic and local shocks where DLUHC take a central role, such as in support of the Steel sector. You will also contribute towards ensuring the Wales team remains an inclusive and high performing team.

**Essential Criteria**
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders.
- Strong track record of working collaboratively with policy and/or delivery teams and effectively influencing internal stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills with a proven ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders on behalf of government, and experience of providing clear and concise briefings to senior internal stakeholders.
- Experience of sensitively delivering difficult and complex messages and challenging the decisions of external stakeholders.
- Ability to develop detailed knowledge of a policy area, and to use this knowledge to make informed judgements about complex and nuanced issues.
- Being able to confidently and calmly deliver work at pace and managing competing demands within a fast-paced environment.
