An exciting and high-profile opportunity has arisen at Middleton Cricket Club for a skilled and experienced grounds person to join us and be a key leader in the delivery of an ambitious strategy, which includes significant development of our venues and playing facilities.

You will be responsible for preparing and delivering outstanding playing and practice facilities for all fixtures at Middleton Cricket Club. Your passion for the latest turf management techniques and best practice is obvious and you are driven to produce the highest standard of pitches.

**Job Purpose**:

- Ensure the maintenance and preparation of the nominated amenities and playing surfaces are up to the standards required. Ensure that safe and consistent quality playing surfaces are available.
- The position does not receive technical guidance from a line manager.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Area Responsibilities**
− Sole responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of nominated sports and amenity surfaces for the end user.

− Prepare, implement, and monitor weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance programmes to ensure the required standard of surface presentation.

− Contribute to the estimating process for the resources required for work projects and maintenance requirements.

− Undertake minor construction and landscaping work

− Allocate work if there is any temporary or contract labour to control and ensure the completion of tasks

− Ensure all equipment is correctly maintained and serviced

− Ensure work area is kept clean, tidy, and secure at all times

− Make recommendations to Senior Cricket Committee regarding improved work systems, labour, and machinery utilisation
- Health & Safety − Have a developed awareness of Health & Safety Act 1974 in the area of responsibility

− Possess a sound understanding of the regulations relating to chemicals and dangerous substances.

− Promote and by example ensure safe-working practices at all times

− Conduct basic risk assessment, make recommendations and be able to respond to emergencies.

− Collect and record data on the playing surface environment

**Job Specification**:
**Essential Criteria**:

- Completed GMA Level 3 training on management techniques and principles to produce a safe and consistent surface
- National/Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 Sports Turf Maintenance or GMA National
Intermediate Diploma or BTEC National Diploma or National Certificate in Turf Science and
Sports Ground Management or City & Guilds Advanced National Certificate in Horticulture
- At least 3 years related experience
- Clear understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation
- Proven track record of reliability and conscientiousness

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Formal Training in manual handling and risk assessment
- Knowledge of pesticides and chemicals used in sports turf
- A valid driving licence
