This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving department of Psychological Medicine in a large University Hospital NHS Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic and able individual to provide clinical input to the multidisciplinary Pain Management Service at the Churchill Hospital.

Clinical Psychology services for patients suffering with Chronic Pain have been provided for many years at the Churchill Hospital, and we have strong links with the Pain Rehabilitation service at the specialist Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.

Evidence-based psychological treatments such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Acceptance-Based therapies (ACT) are integrated within a multidisciplinary care package offered by Anaesthetists, Specialist Nurses and Physiotherapists. Pain Psychology input is offered as a tertiary level service as referrals are only accepted from other members of the Pain team, ensuring specialist medical assessment and intervention has been completed. Psychology is highly valued within the team and there is plenty of opportunity for you to develop your consultation, supervision, and teaching skills. Previous experience of working in the field of pain is desirable, but not essential.

Oxford University Hospitals Trust actively encourages and supports supervision and CPD. We have strong academic links and are very active in audit and research. We take trainees from the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training.

To provide a psychological service to clients of the Chronic Pain Management Service who are experiencing psychological difficulties. Such provision to include direct clinical intervention, group work, teaching and supervision of staff, participating in relevant service developments and research. In all areas of the role, to work autonomously as an independent practitioner within defined aims and professional guidelines, fully accountable for professional actions.

Key working relationships include the Department of Psychological Medicine, and the Multidisciplinary teams of the Oxford Pain Management Centre (Churchill Hospital) and the Optimise Pain Rehabilitation Unit (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre).

The Psychological Medicine service is part of the Oxford Psychological Medicine Centre, which is internationally recognised for its teaching and research in the integration of psychology and psychiatry into medical care.

The appointee will work alongside colleagues who are integrated into medical teams across the Trust, and will be based at the Churchill Hospital.

To independently manage a caseload and offer a direct Clinical Psychology Service to clients of the Chronic Pain Management Centre in the following ways, as appropriate: Psychological Assessment,Group Work,Individual Psychological therapy, family work/couple work.

To liaise and work with other staff within the Chronic Pain service, providing psychological guidance on matters relating to patient care, including risk management.

To liaise with other staff within the NHS, Social Services and the Voluntary Sector, on matters relating to patient care.

To maintain clear patient records and case notes in line with the policies of the Department of Psychological Medicine, and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust,

To propose and contribute to service development specifically within the Chronic Pain Centre under the guidance of the Lead Clinical Psychologist

To attend team meetings where appropriate and participate in discussion on the local interpretation and implementation of new legislation and national guidance under the guidance of the Lead Clinical Psychologist

To offer psychological supervision to Assistant Psychologists if appropriate

To provide teaching and training to other professional colleagues/staff groups on psychological matters as appropriate

To undertake clinically relevant evaluation and research within the Chronic Pain Management Centre
