**Post: Senior Early Years Practitioner**

The Senior Early Years Practitioner will lead and work as part of a team to plan, support and develop the education and care of young children 6 weeks to 5 years.

Job Description General features of the remit
- Plan, develop and extend learning for all children
- Organise and lead small group and individual activities
- Be the key person for a group of children
- Support the development of other staff working by planning together and role modelling practice and paperwork
- Liaise with all nursery staff to share information about individual children
- Follow nursery guidelines and procedures, Health and Safety and Child Protection according to guidelines from The Care Inspectorate, Education Scotland and Local Authority
- Lead the organising, layout and clearing of the indoor and outdoor play areas ensuring all equipment is hygienic and well maintained
- Attend to and at times delegate tasks for all aspects of children’s care and wellbeing, including assisting with toileting and changing and administering first aid
- Take responsibility for the administration of medication and the completion of all associated paperwork
- Fostering and maintaining good relations with children, colleagues and parents
- Participate in reporting and progress monitoring for children
- Engage in Staff Review and CPD
- Participate in nursery staff meetings, taking a lead role in these if required
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the nursery improvement plan, policies and procedures
- Ensure the positive management of children’s behaviour at all times
- When the Manager is absent it is recognised that the role of the Senior Early Years Practitioner will be different and certain areas of responsibility will require more time. This will be particularly evident during holiday periods
- Undertaking such other duties as the Nursery Manager may from time to time determine

**Qualifications**

HNC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 7/ SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7 or equivalent is essential.

Hold or currently working towards: SCQF level 8 or 9, SVQ 4 Social Services (Children and Young People), BA in Childhood Practice or other equivalent further qualifications.
