**About the role**:
**Key Responsibilities for Cook**:

- Prepare and cook meals according to specific dietary requirements and guidelines.
- Plan menus in collaboration with the healthcare team, taking into account nutritional needs and patient preferences.
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Manage inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Assist in the development of meal plans and recipes that promote healthy eating.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to provide a positive dining experience for patients.
- Provide guidance and support to kitchen volunteers and staff.
- Maintain accurate records of food preparation and storage.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations.

**Salary and Contract for Cook Position**:
**Salary**: £14,599 to £16,095 per year (£22,500 - £25,000 per year full time equivalent)
**Contract**: Permanent
**Hours**: Part-time 24 hours per week over 5 days (Monday to Sunday on a rotating shift pattern)
**Location**: Basildon Hospice and Thurrock Hospice

**About you**:
**Skills and Qualifications for Cook**:
**Essential**:

- Previous experience as a cook or chef in a healthcare setting or similar environment.
- Knowledge of dietary requirements and nutrition.
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques.
- Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Food Safety Certificate Level 2 or equivalent.

**Desirable**:

- Experience in creating specialised diets (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, gluten-free).
- Experience working in a hospice or similar healthcare environment.

**Personal Characteristics for Cook**:

- Passion for cooking and caring for others through food.
- Attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
- Empathy for the ethos of the Hospice.
- Resilient and able to cope with challenging situations.
- Reliable and trustworthy.
