Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

To grow our sustainability team in the UK, we are looking for an Ecology and Biodiversity Lead to work with our senior leadership and project teams to design biodiversity enhancement into our engineering. Working on sustainability and environmental issues, you’ll liaise with project teams and customers to co-create, implement and monitor ecology and biodiversity aspects of our projects and assist in further developing our biodiversity strategy on some of the most complex infrastructure programmes in the UK. You will also collaborate with COWI's biodiversity teams in the USA Denmark, Sweden and Norway to share experience.

**Your key responsibilities will be**:
Working with COWI's engineers to identify from project inception how to devise biodiversity enhancing designs and maximise the environmental benefits.
Working across multidisciplinary teams, utilising scientific principles and practices as well as existing and innovative technology to develop technical solutions to complex problems.
Engaging client facing project teams and customers to promote positive biodiversity practice at a project and organisational level.
Working with colleagues internationally to further develop COWI’s approach to the biodiversity and sustainability challenges across the company.
Coordinating biodiversity assessments and be competent at using the DEFRA/Natural England biodiversity metric.

Managing sub-contractors for ecological surveys in a wide variety of habitats across the UK.
Liaison with the Project Director, project partners, design team, client representatives and stakeholders.
Contributing to the consent consultation process.
Supporting pursuit of relevant business development opportunities, developing client relationships and input into bids and tenders, as required.

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

**On top of that, you’ll have**:
A relevant degree or equivalent qualification
Membership of a relevant professional organisation (e.g. CIEEM)
Substantial project related ecological experience in large multi discipline civil engineering projects (including some of tunnels, bridges, marine works, offshore wind)
Working knowledge and hands on experience with (coordination of) terrestrial and marine biodiversity surveys and assessments
Considerable experience in preparing biodiversity inputs to the EIA and planning process, underpinned by understanding of UK environmental and planning regulations
Good communication and inter-personal skills in order to work collaboratively in a diverse multi-disciplinary team

A place to work and so much more.

We value differences and development and cultivate an environment of belonging and having fun. Because that is what brings out the best in you, at work and at home.

With offices primarily located in Scandinavia, the UK, North America, and India, we are currently 7,300 people who bring their expertise in engineering, architecture, energy, and environment into play.

**What we also offer**:
To us, a fair reward is more than a competitive salary. We want to take care of our people professionally and personally as well.

**Some of our benefits include**:
28 days' holiday plus all UK bank and public holidays
