Prison Liaison Support, Time and Recovery Worker

Birmingham, United Kingdom Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Working within HMP Birmingham and Outreach in the community, we are looking for a versatile and motivated STR worker to join us to deliver a service to vulnerable individuals who are often the most marginalised within society. This is an exciting time of transition for the existing Prison Leavers team as we move towards becoming a new RECONNECT site.

STRs are a key part of Liaison and Diversion, as they assist clients who are typically hard to engage, building trust and a rapport to gain a holistic understanding of their circumstances and how to improve them. The successful post holder will support individuals in their release from the Prison estate through the transition to successful integration back into the community. STRs will assist service users to access support, providing individualised packages of care drawing directly from their own lived experience of being involved in the Criminal Justice System. They can also provide help and advice on housing, social isolation and exclusion, education, debt management, employment issues and engagement with statutory services.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, resourceful and creative in overcoming potential challenges for your service users and able to demonstrate resilience as you proactively support your service users and liaise with partner agencies.

We have a committed, motivated, hardworking and skilled team and offer excellent career development opportunities. The team holds a strong recovery focused ethos, and you will work alongside partner agencies, including the police, peer mentors, probation and court staff, to name a few.
- You will work alongside registered practitioners and peer mentor as part of the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion team under the direction of the team leads.
- You will manage a caseload of clients, aiding and encouraging their engagement with services.
- You will work with service users ' families and friends to ensure a holistic understanding of their circumstances.
- You will signpost service users to, and encourage engagement with, appropriate services.
- You will develop links into the community and agencies to enable improved, supported access to services.
- You will work flexibly, visiting custody suites, magistrates' courts, and other locations in the community.

Welcome to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Our 4000 clinical and support staff help us to improve mental health wellbeing and meet the needs of the 70,000 people we serve each year. We provide a range of mental healthcare services across Birmingham and Solihull, as well as specialised services nationally. We also offer medical, nursing and psychology training and are proud of our international reputation for both research and innovation.

Our population is culturally diverse, characterised in places by high levels of deprivation which create an increasing demand for our services and a necessity for us to make sure everyone can access the help they need. We are a team of compassionate, inclusive and committed people working together to provide excellent care to support our community. If you are looking for a place to belong, where you can make a real difference to people's lives, join our team where our warm welcome is waiting for you.

For further information about the main responsibilities please view the attached job description and person specification.
