This school is based in Peckham, accessible for people who drive public transport.

This school supports academically and independently children aged 11 to 19 with a diagnosis of SEN, including Autism, complex needs, which includes Profound Multiple Medical Needs (PMLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).

You will be based within a school that ensures all children follow their personalised Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). You will be allowed to learn while working and supporting children.

As the 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will see a range of different children with various barriers they face. Some children may have problems understanding complicated information, learning skills, and looking after themselves. At the same time, some may have been diagnosed with Autism/ASC and have significant Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN). Some are entirely non-verbal. Many students have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and/or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). They have complex learning difficulties and other disabilities, affecting their independence and communication ability.

Becoming a 1:1 Teaching Assistant and having the right personality are everything. If you have the right personality traits, such as being a positive role model and want to set an excellent example for the students. For this role as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you must have the passion and drive to want to support these children.

It would be beneficial if the 1:1 Teaching Assistant has studied in a field of Psychology, Health and Social Care, Sociology, Criminology, Education, or anything else. You may have family members and friends with special needs, and you are familiar with the needs and how to support them. You may have mínimal experience but just want to learn. If you have personal experience, then this role could be for you.
