About the role

DS Smith are a market leader in the design, creation, and production of corrugated packaging solutions for a range of industries across the world. We work closely with the Product Development, Operations and Marketing departments of top brands across the world, to deliver sustainable, creative, innovative solutions that enhance our customer’s products in-store and throughout supply chains.

We are looking for a fresh thinking Packaging Designer to support our Sales, Design & Innovation team in ensuring that solutions are effectively deployed maximising operational efficiency and daily customer delight.

The role will be based out of our industry leading packaging site in Crumlin, where we create products for our industrial clients. The packaging we create here is bespoke and could be used by our customers to transport anything from engine parts, to military devices, to blood donations. They all require unique packaging and we need someone with a passion in design to come and help us develop suitable prototypes meeting our clients’ requirements.

This a great opportunity if you’re looking to continue to develop your skillset in this field as you’ll be taking the designs from your team and customers, always making sure to deliver an innovative and first-class end product. The role will provide a platform for you to expand your network, understand more about end-to-end processes and push your design skills to the limits as you take on more creative projects. We also want to take care of your development, so we offer plenty of opportunities to progress within this field at DS Smith.

Working with a focussed team of Creatives across the business, you will implement the designs developed by the Creative Specialists, ensuring the end product is in line with the customer brief. You’ll get exposure to cutting edge CAD, remote collaboration technology and sustainability software to develop creative packaging solutions for a wide range of products and customer types.

Note: Internally, this role will be known as a Design for Implementation Specialist.

About you
- Minimum requirements:_
- Strong design skills, with a focus on creativity and innovative thinking
- A solid understanding of 2D and 3D design
- A proactive team player who can demonstrate energy and enthusiasm to inspire customers and colleagues
- Preferred requirements:_
- Experience of using CAD, but are open to other design tools
- Experience in Packaging, Manufacturing or FMCG would be advantageous
