Cemetery Operative

**Job Title**: Cemetery Operative - Must a driving license

**Location**: Sutton Coldfield and surrounding cemeteries. Flexibility to work across Birmingham is required.

**Pay Rate**: £9.90 per hour

**Work pattern**:36.5 hours. Working between the hours 0700-1900

**Contract Length**: Rolling and ongoing.

Based in Sutton Coldfield but required to work at any of the city’s cemeteries and crematoria, the post holder will work as part of a team to provide a high-quality service to the bereaved and associated agencies. To excavate, backfill and prepare gravesfor interment and to perform other associated duties as required including grounds maintenance tasks and crematoria attendant duties.

a) Location, preparation, shoring and excavation of graves for a set day and time. Preparation of excavated graves for interment to include provision of artificial grass mats, lower ropes, stretchers etc. Backfilling of graves after interment and tidyingof immediate area.

b) To lead on funerals, oversee interments and conduct the scattering and interment of cremated remains, and to provide a full range of crematorium attendant duties as required.

c) To perform ground maintenance tasks not included in the grounds maintenance contract as detailed in the document 'Non-Contracted Cemetery Grounds Maintenance.

d) Responsible for the unlocking/locking of cemetery gates as instructed. All issues regarding cemetery/ crematorium security must be reported to the Foreperson.

e) Driving and operation of the following vehicles:

- Van / Car
- Tractor, Mini Tractor and Trailer
- Dumper
- Excavator
- Road sweeper
