Security is key to the success of UKHSA, as a data-led body, looking to protect the health of the nation from infectious diseases and other external threats to health. We cover physical and personnel security, resilience, professional standards, intelligence and vetting.

To work as a senior member of the Physical, & Personnel Security, Resilience and Vetting team within the Estates and Security (Physical and Personal) Department.

The roles will be leading either the UKHSA Physical or Personnel activities in areas of security operational delivery for all UKHSA’s functions and directorates, including our high profile and high risk national public health laboratories. It will require providing advice and support to the organisation and conducting security related compliance and assurance activities on UKHSA providers, who are servicing contracts relating to the UKHSA estate. This includes security site assessments on laboratories, offices, testing sites, logistic supply chain, and warehouses etc.

You will need to be self-motivated, pragmatic and extremely proactive as you will be the lead security professional engaging with senior external stakeholders within security forums and or representing HMG in client facing situations.

In addition, you will be required to develop a comprehensive understanding of security controls as they relate to both office and laboratory settings in support of delivering advice and guidance on the selection of measures that meet the “Safe by Design” and CPNI’s Operational Requirements.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is responsible for planning, preventing and responding to external health threats, and providing intellectual, scientific and operational leadership at national and local level, as well as on the global stage. UKHSA ensures that the nation can respond quickly and at greater scale to deal with a range of health threats, including those of a future pandemic.

You will be working with a highly motivated and passionate group of people and will be working alongside them in an exciting and fast pace environment with the opportunity to make your mark and influence government policy and delivery.

Travel and overnight stays for training courses will be required. In addition, occasional travel to and from UKHSA or Client Offices will be expected to be undertaken within working hours.

Key Responsibilities
- Identify, assess and analyse security threats or business continuity issues
- Mitigate risks through effective planning and assurance of security arrangements
- Provide an operational incident management and investigation response - including an on-call security duty office cover on a rota basis
- Monitor, where relevant, security services to ensure they meet agreed performance levels
- Collaborate with colleagues in government and the emergency services to ensure effective information sharing and incident response
- Project management and delivery of security functions including adding professional expertise to the delivery of other projects, as required
- Manage multiple risks, activities and demands whilst delivering timely results including the provision of support and advice on security or risk management
- Contingency planning, policy development, training, exercising and testing
- Line manage a small team providing demonstrable support for diversity and inclusion
- Providing oversight in the delivery of specialist guidance to operational teams to support compliance with UKHSA operational delivery activities across the estate
