We are looking to recruit to this position on a secondment/fixed term basis (10 months).

The role involves providing senior leadership to the heads of therapy professions (Head of Dietetics; Head of Adult Occupational Therapy; Head of Adult Physiotherapy; Head of Podiatry; Head of Adult Speech and Language Therapy) as well as Adult Community Therapy Services for Lewisham. This position is jointly accountable to the Head of Social Care for the London Borough of Lewisham, and developing further integrated ways of working with our community partners and system wide is a key aspect and priority for this role at this time. This post is also part of the senior leadership team within the division of Allied Clinical Services, responsible for delivery of the relevant therapy services at University Hospital Lewisham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich and Lewisham Community.

This role reports into the Divisional Director for Professions and Governance/Lead AHP so deputising and taking a key role in promoting the AHP agenda will be required.

The Head of Therapy role is a key position within the Senior Management Team with a prime focus on the day-to-day delivery of high standards of patient centered therapy across integrated health and social care pathways and services.

This post holds responsibility for all the therapy services (Dietetics; Occupational Therapy ;Physiotherapy; Podiatry; Speech and Language Therapy;) provided by Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (community and acute) and selected services delivered by the London Borough of Lewisham (LBL).

This post holds responsibility for services internal and external to the acute Trust as therapy services deliver care both in acute beds, community settings (including intermediate care beds) and patients own homes.

The post holder assumes delegated functions of corporate therapy development programmes, recruitment and retention, measuring and improving standards of care and the patient experience, in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.

The post holder will demonstrate a highly visible democratic leadership style, which is underpinned by the values of Lewisham and Greenwich Trust.

The post holder will ensure that the principles of prevention, choice and control for service users and carers are embedded in the work of the teams.

The post holder will ensure that all risks are appropriately managed, and to act immediately to reduce risk, including safeguarding concerns.

As an organisation, we’ve made significant improvements for patients and staff in the last two and-a-half years. This is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection (from February 2020), which found improvements across the organisation and gave us an improved rating of “Good” in the Well-Led and Effective domains, in addition to the rating of “Good” that we had already achieved in the Caring domain. Our staff culture change programme has been key to the Trust’s improvement journey, as we’ve stabilised our workforce by reducing vacancy rates and improving staff retention. We’ve also significantly increased the representation of minority ethnic leaders across our clinical and corporate teams.

The trust is located in a pleasant part of South East London, with easy access to central London and the Kent countryside. There is a wide range of residential areas with excellent local amenities and schools.
