To work within the Decontamination unit, part of the Barnsley Integrated Community Equipment Service (BICES), cleaning, processing, and the inspection of used/returned items of community equipment / medical devices to be safely reused and re-issued to service users. Decontamination Unit Assistants need to demonstrate a quality focus and vigilance in maintaining exacting standards of cleaning and decontamination in accordance with relevant national guidance and quality standards, internal quality management systems and departmental work instructions. To assist with the smooth running of BICES, for example by assisting with general duties such as deliveries and collections of equipment items to/from service users homes, stock control and storekeeping tasks. Key Result Areas Cleaning Duties: Assessing and implementing the appropriate method of cleaning and disinfection of equipment in accordance with departmental work instructions, manufacturers guidelines and SWYFT Infection Control guidelines.

Dismantling items of equipment prior to cleaning, checking the condition to ensure good working order, cleaning and then re-assembling the item so it can be safely returned to the warehouse for re-issue. To undertake the portable appliance testing (PAT) of electrical items. Routinely carrying out the operational inspection and testing of newly cleaned profiling beds, dynamic mattress systems and hoists following decontamination. To ensure that the specific equipment items are fully functional, safe, and remain within required specified service schedules.

To highlight possible safety concerns of newly cleaned equipment destined for re-use. Ensuring that appropriate patient instruction and safety guidance are included within the packaging of all equipment items. Ensuring accurate completion of all necessary documentation concerning the identification, processing and relabelling of equipment items using the BICESs ELMS2 IT system. The postholder will assess that any item of equipment identified to be defective, unsafe or in a poor condition is taken out of service immediately, for patient safety, quarantine, and to ensure the correct disposal processes.

To ensure that the disposal of any such items of equipment, is disposed of effectively and within the compliance of the SWYFT Waste Policy. This includes the identification and separation of various materials (i.e. General Scrap / Clinical / WEE waste). To ensure that the appropriate method of disposal is undertaken and that all trust asset and identification is removed.
