Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia

The Department of General Anaesthesia sits within the Division of Surgery; however the wider anaesthesia service bridges four clinical divisions of UHBW: Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Specialised Services (cardiac anaesthesia), Women’s and Children’s (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia) and Weston. The department of anaesthesia is seeking to appoint locum consultants in general anaesthesia to join the team based at the Weston General Hospital. The successful applicant will join a group of 8 substantive consultants and one locum consultant. The post will be offered at 10 Pas.

These posts will be based at the Weston General Hospital and will address a flexible service requirement for adult general anaesthetic services for gynaecology, general surgery “upper and lower GI”, orthopaedics “elective and trauma”, urology, and pre-operative assessment. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the general on-call consultant rota (currently approximately 1:7).

UHBW is a large inner city teaching hospital with close links to Southmead Hospital and the University of Bristol. There is a strong tradition of teaching in the department and we support the running of Bristol Medical Simulation Centre, based at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The applicant must hold FRCA (UK) or equivalent and be within 6 months of their CCT date at the time of interview. We are looking for applicants who are prepared to work flexibly to ensure smooth service delivery and there is opportunity to develop a specialist interest.
