The Peatland Survey Officer will lead on peatland surveys, helping to turn the results into projects that are ready for subsequent peatland restoration funding. They will be supported by the Peatland Survey Assistants and be expected to pass on their knowledge and skills to develop these individuals for the benefit of the Peatland Team.

The post is initially offered till March 2025 with the possibility of extension. Provided that additional funding is secured, alongside further survey and monitoring, it is likely that the work may diversify to include restoration coordination and contractor monitoring.

The aim of the Northumberland Peat Partnership is to develop a peatland restoration programme across the partnership area, which is all of Northumberland north of the A69. The partnership comprises of NGOs, local authorities and statutory agencies as well as land managers. Its aim is to collectively facilitate positive management and restoration of peatland habitats across Northumberland, excluding the area already covered through the work of the North Pennines AONB (south of the A69). The partnership, through NWT as the lead applicant, has been successful in obtaining funding from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the DEFRA Nature for Climate Peatland Discovery Grant.
