**Job Purpose**:
In our survey of voluntary and community organisations in the South Hams, volunteer recruitment, retention and training were their top priorities. The postholder will work with our team to encourage volunteer recruitment in areas of identified need. The work will include:

- Supporting South Hams community groups and our team with volunteer recruitment, including retention, access to policies and training.
- To enhance employment prospects and reduce their social isolation through volunteering for people with physical and learning difficulties/disabilities.
- Working with partners and businesses to encourage longer-term planning around volunteering, eg. corporate volunteering, retirement planning.

**Main Duties**
- Researching best practice or successful volunteer recruitment projects in other areas and tailoring these to benefit South Hams’ groups and residents.
- Encouraging people to volunteer in their local communities through a variety of channels, including social media, press releases, posters, articles in newsletters.
- Creating targeted recruitment campaigns for specific organisations or identified areas of need, eg. community transport.
- Attending or developing activities and events to raise awareness of volunteering.
- Working with partners and businesses to encourage longer-term planning around volunteering, eg. corporate volunteering, retirement planning. Where volunteering capacity gaps require more strategic thinking, the postholder will develop partnerships to better meet the identified need.
- Attending employment and other events to encourage people with learning and/or physical disabilities/difficulties, to consider volunteering.
- Working with partners to enable support for groups when recruiting volunteers with disabilities and/or additional needs.
- Providing information and/or training to groups on how they can better communicate their volunteer recruitment needs.
- Update and disseminate volunteering best practice guidance to all groups (policy work will be supported within the team).
- Providing reports, including monitoring and evaluation, on the activities undertaken and the outcomes achieved.
- Supporting individuals who contact South Hams Community Action, to find volunteering opportunities within South Hams community groups, or via Devon Connect (our online platform).
- Publicise the Devon Connect platform and encourage groups to upload volunteering opportunities.

**General (for all team members)**
- Carry out duties at all times in accordance with South Hams Community Action’s policies and procedures.
- Work with other team members to ensure joint working throughout the organisation, and to enable the best possible service to our residents and voluntary and community sector.
- Participate in team meetings, and undertake training as required.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks appropriate to the job as may be required from time to time.

- Significant experience of the voluntary sector and the benefits of volunteering, including good practice for volunteering.
- The ability to engage with a range of stakeholders to build volunteering capacity around the needs identified by our teams.
- A demonstrable understanding of the challenges and needs for groups and their volunteers with physical and learning disabilities/difficulties.
- Excellent numerical and literacy skills.
- Excellent (verbal and written) communication skills and an understanding of the needs of your audience.
- Strong IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, etc.
- Ability to organise events to encourage volunteering and/or to help our groups to maximise their volunteer recruitment.
- Strong organisational skills with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to produce clear, informative, accessible and appropriate written materials and reports.
- Ability to work independently without close supervision, to prioritise work and to meet deadlines.
- Being willing and able to work within organisational policies and procedures.
- Ability to make decisions and adjust to changing priorities and workloads effectively.
- Having a can-do attitude and being a proactive member of our team, undertaking shared tasks as required.
- Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and providing an inclusive service.
- A full driving licence with business insurance cover.

**Desirable**
- Experience of communication using social media, press releases, newsletters and articles.
- The ability to create visual materials, eg. with Canva or Publisher.
- Training groups in areas that will benefit their volunteer recruitment, eg. communications.
- Experience of using Microsoft Office 365, including Teams & Sharepoint
