**Job Purpose**:
As a technical Instructor you will provide training of overhead line skills to existing staff and contractors, and assessing the progress and competencies of all craft trainees. This will involve undertaking training and assessments at the training centres and occasional site visits to perform training and assessments at the work place.
**Principal Accountabilities**:
To further enhance the technical competencies of staff and to support the needs throughout UK Power Networks. An important element of this will be to ensure the training is always focusing on Safety, Health, Quality and the Environment. To support this, trainers will be expected to promote the latest technologies, techniques and policies throughout all training courses. A full development package will be provided to enhance the skills of the new trainers.
You will manage the daily delivery of Technical Training ensuring it meets the required standards in safety, customer service and quality
You will also work with other Technical Instructors on producing training plans and assessment material
Support the development and introduction of new technology, supporting operational staff and Networks management teams accordingly
Build an environment of trust and collaboration
You will promote an environment of technical excellence and safety awareness
Perform any additional tasks and special projects
**Qualifications**:
We prefer that you be a natural communicator and can demonstrate practical skills and lecture classroom material.
You will have knowledge of the LV and HV distribution networks, preferably gained in an overhead line role, and associated safety rules and after training can give the full range of craft courses.
A can do mentality is essential to inject fresh thinking and new ideas for self development in an evolving technological environment.
Demonstrate team player qualities.
Able to judge and manage short and long range tasks consecutively.
A working knowledge of applicable I.T systems (Powerpoint, Excel, Word).
Formal HSS qualification preferred (IOSH, NEBOSH)
L3 qualification in Power Engineering

**Nature and Scope**:
This position is for an additional resource in the Technical Training team to ensure it can provide the predicted training demand increase associated with the recruitment forecast. The role is an ideal opportunity for those wishing to develop their experience to further their career and for those wishing to pass on their knowledge and skills. Full training will be given to you to achieve the required instructional and presentation techniques, NVQ assessors and HSS qualification as applicable.
The Technical Instructor reports to the Training Centre Manager, and manages the delivery of Overhead line technical training required by the business.
Training delivery and design is carried out by means of a close liaison with other technical trainers, operational staff and networks management teams accordingly to ensure training is delivered to the required standards of quality, safety and customer service.
The job holder is required to have a thorough knowledge of LV and HV Distribution Networks and associated safety rules to provide a full range of courses.
A level of collaborative and interpersonal skills will be essential in this role. You will have a can-do mentality, and can inject fresh thinking and new ideas for self development and an evolving technological environment.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
