**Working pattern**:All work is on site at the University. The hours are 07.30-3.00pm rotating with a late shift of 2.30pm to 10.pm Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week

Adecco are currently recruiting for a
**Porter** to join a prestigious university based in Reading.

**Roles and responsibilities**

**Buildings**:

- The Locking & unlocking of academic buildings, classrooms and lecture theatres as required.
- Maintaining classrooms, lecture theatres and public areas including the arranging and movement of furniture, preparing space for a variety of uses throughout the business cycle to include Teaching, Exams, Graduation, Events, Conferences etc.
- Maintaining the curtilage of academic buildings and the correct disposal and recycling of wastes, ensuring the external appearance of buildings is to a high standard including steps, entrance halls and porches etc

**Postal**:

- To assist with receipt/dispatch of goods and post to/from agreed collection/delivery points within buildings.

**Portering**:

- To undertake the moving of furniture and other items that may require the lifting of heavy objects.
- To undertake the movement of items such as literature, exhibits, scripts for exams for university events such as open days, visit days, exams, conference and external events where applicable.

**Driving**
- To undertake the driving of Campus Services vehicles, not requiring HGV or PSV licences either on or off campus, for which a clean driving licence is essential.
- To ensure accurate and up to date records are kept for vehicle use: recording vehicle use on the task sheets, carry out vehicle safety checklists prior to use, purchase fuel in accordance with University Policy and report accidents and incidents as they occur. Carry this out according to procedures and process requirement of the driving function in Portering Services.
- Health and Safety
- To follow University Health and Safety regulations and guidelines (paying particular attention to Manual Handling rules) and to attend training sessions as required.
- To report any incident that involves injury, damage to any person or property, pedestrian or third party immediately in line with university procedures.
- To observe lone working guidance practices.

**Environmental**:

- To assist with recycling and waste disposal initiatives and ensuring that the campus is presented in the best possible condition and to encourage building users and the wider University community to comply with the University Sustainability policy and to meet our ISO14001:2015 requirements.

**Security**:

- Respond to requests from Security Control Room with regard to checking and re-setting alarm systems.
- Keeping Security Control informed of incidents and occurrences that may require further actions.

**General**:

- Reporting faults using the WREN system with fabric/fixtures and fittings within centrally booked rooms and public spaces.
- Carry out Portering Service administration tasks using Microsoft Office software as required. Use University communications equipment following published policy guidelines or SOP (phones, radio's etc.)

**Relevant Experience**
- IT literate with Knowledge of MS Office
- Previous experience of working in a Customer Service
- Previous experience of working to plans and deadlines Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Good levels of literacy and numeracy
- Capable and willing to follow instruction and direction
- Experience of heavy lifting processes and using equipment to facilitate this with manual handling.
