As our Wildlife Warden co-ordinator, you will support towns, parishes, community groups and individual volunteers across the borough in their work to monitor, record and improve biodiversity.

The co-ordinator will communicate with local wildlife groups, help to identify and connect individual volunteers and experts, research and establish a resource list for biodiversity project in local parishes, help organise training days with ecologists and naturalists, publicise local efforts to help groups reach a broader audience and work with the Devon Wildlife Trust, Devon County Council and other county-wide groups to help West Devon meet its target of a 10% Biodiversity Net Gain in the habitat value of its green and wooded public spaces by 2025.

You’ll need to have a basic knowledge of practical ecology and be good at working with people of all ages (including local Councils and farmers) as well as being good at administrative work and record-keeping.

The post is a fixed-term 12 month contract for 15 hours per week. These can be worked flexibly in order to reach out to a wide audience. It is anticipated that a large proportion of the hours will need to be in evenings and weekends.
