Principal Marine Ecologist at a rapidly growing company
**Your new company**My client is a small but rapidly growing, environmental company. They were established in 2016 by its co-founders after over 30 years combined experience of working within the marine and freshwater environment sector. They provide consultancy advice and supportas well as ecological, topographic and hydrographic survey services to clients throughout the UK and overseas.
**Your new role**
You will be involved in a wide range of services, spanning fisheries and benthic ecology surveys, to utilising novel technologies such as ROVs and aerial UAVs for ecological and asset inspection purposes, as well as environmental consultancy.
You will provide technical leadership across the Ecology team to deliver inputs across all project stages from bidding/feasibility/optioneering, extensive field survey programming and assessment.
Provide leadership that will drive and develop technically excellent services and identify new opportunities across the market to sustain continued growth and expansion in the team.
Have a willingness, appetite and enthusiasm for new challenges and for being central to the growth and continual technical development of the Ecology team.
This is a great opportunity to work directly alongside the founding director and have a say over the growth and direction of the company
**What you'll need to succeed**
Essential:

- Have well founded commercial experience preferably in consultancy environment
- Extensive knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation, planning policies, licensing requirements and best practice survey techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; be able to produce meticulous and accurate technical reports.
- Excellent team working skills are therefore essential together with strong communication skills.
- Ability to travel and work away from home on occasions.
- The desire to work outdoors and in all weathers and aboard sea going vessels. Experience of utilising GIS and statistical analysis software (QGIS, R, Primer etc.).

Desirable:

- Post graduate qualification (Masters or Doctorate).
- Experience in providing clients with the accurate and proportionate technical and consenting advice in relation to DCOs and significant infrastructure projects in the UK.
- Experience in Project Direction and technical reviews.
- Knowledge and experience of marine and freshwater fish ID
- In-date offshore medical (BOSEIT / ENG1 etc.) or ability to pass one.
- Relevant professional memberships and accreditations
