To be part of a diverse team at a time of major development and change in the Trust across the seven main sites offering varied challenges and opportunities. You will be part of developing and providing religious, spiritual and pastoral care in imaginative and creative ways for the Trust community. There will be opportunities to contribute to new spiritual care initiatives across the whole Trust.

To be Deputy Head of Chaplaincy and a generic chaplain for the Trust and to represent your own faith/ denomination/belief where necessary and undertake such duties as directed by the Head of Chaplaincy as needs demand. Possibly working across all sites but mainly at Worthing Hospital, St Richard's Hospital Chichester and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham-By-Sea where the on-call cover will be based

**You will**:

- be an authorised, licenced or ordained person, minister, priest or pastoral carer in good standing with your faith or belief organisation. Christian applicants will be a member of one of the churches affiliated and registered with Churches Together in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
- have academic qualifications leading to ordination, licencing or authorisation in pastoral, belief, spiritual and or religious care and have education in theology and philosophy.
- be registered or accredited to a recognised UK national Chaplaincy organisation providing standards and guidance for professional Chaplains or be prepared to act within the competencies and code of conduct of the UKBHC.
- Discern and respond to emotional and spiritual needs for patients, relatives, carers and staff.
- Act as a spiritual, pastoral and ethical religious resource.
- When on-call to have responsibility for responding appropriately to all calls relating to spiritual and religious care.
- Supervise staff chaplains and volunteers and manage the day-to-day chaplaincy service.

- To be able to negotiate and work within highly complex and sensitive situations and to provide strategic resource of advice on spiritual practice and care for both chaplaincy teams and wider trust leaders.
- To supervise chaplains and volunteers to deliver effective and accessible staff support services in line with trust requirements including staff appraisals.
- Assist when necessary and appropriate with emergency marriages, civil partnerships, baptisms and blessings.
- To conduct services of public worship, thanksgiving or commemoration regularly in the hospitals, in accordance with own religious or belief tradition and ecumenically as required, and to administer faith community rites and practices to patients on the wards,
- To advise or seek advice on all spiritual aspects of bereavement care. To conduct funerals and take part in or lead memorial services and other corporate or public events.
- To maintain activity and audit sheets, rotas and assist in the production of information sheets and leaflets for the chaplaincy service.
