**The Newt in Somerset **is looking for an entomologist to join our team of gardeners. This is a new role and will carry out a varied range of tasks across the estate including**:
- Pest control in the garden, using pheromone and baited traps. Managing our biological control programme across the gardens and investigating organic ways to control pests and diseases. Developing pest management strategies to control insect pests, this may involve developing and testing new biological control methods or studying the behaviour of pest species to identify vulnerabilities.
- Carrying out wildlife surveys across the gardens and recording finds and monitoring certain species. Taking a lead on monitoring our newt and bat populations across the site and liaising with contractors.
- Managing our fish across the estate and ensuring their habitats are well maintained across all of the estate’s ponds and lakes. Also sourcing fish for new projects.
- Carrying out workshops and specialist tours for our hotel guests and members.
- Collaborate with other scientists from other fields, such as plant pathologists, ecologists, or geneticists, to better understand the complex interactions between insects and their environment at The Newt in Somerset

**Skills Required**:
- Qualification to Msc level, or have equivalent experience, in Entomology, herpetologist, Ichthyologistor or a related and relevant biological science.
- A keenness to develop knowledge of entomological biology and taxonomy is highly desired.
- The position involves working with both live and dead insects, mites, spiders and other invertebrates, so feeling comfortable with this is key.
- Experience running workshops and giving tours is also desirable.
