Do you want to be part of a construction team that build amazing and unique theatre sets which are viewed and admired by thousands of people worldwide? Think you have the talent and skills to produce first class scenery? Then join our team at TR2.

TR2 Production and Learning Centre is the Theatre Royal Plymouth’s purpose-built workshop facility based in Plymouth. We build scenery that is played on stages worldwide. We also make unique structures for arts and exhibition installations.

This amazing creative output is achieved by our talented team of makers. Construction is predominantly steel fabrication and carpentry, producing large scenic constructions such as 15m by 10m arches and two storey buildings. We also have our own CNC router that is used to produce formers and floors. We then have a team of scenic artists who finish everything off to perfection. To join our team, you will need to enjoy learning new skills and continually want to develop them. You will also love problem solving as no two sets will be the same, and working to short deadlines.

Collaboration is what makes it all happen and along with the team of Makers and Scenic Artists, you will be working with Managers and Draughtspersons too.

Our Makers are awarded pay grades (from 1-4) The grade is determined by the level of skill and competency a person has. Skill mapping and progression is done through a skills competency matrix, please read this chart if you are interested in applying.

We are recruiting for people to work at our level 1,2 & 3 Maker positions and these correspond to the upper and lower rate of pay advertised. We would also be willing to consider someone for a Maker 4 position so long as they can demonstrate experience of working in both steel and wood across a broad range of scenic construction techniques along with experience of working in a scenery workshop.

You will need to have a flexible pro-active approach to working hours and overtime.

Normal working weeks are 8 hours a day 8:30am to 5pm, 40 hours per week. Working times for casual staff can vary.
