Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust requires a dynamic and forward thinking locum consultant to join the Gastroenterology team.This post will be a fixed term contract for three months in the first instance with a possible extension pending substantive recruitment.This post will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site.

**The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust has two acute sites**: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and University Hospital Lewisham (UHL). The hospital covers the London Boroughs of Greenwich and parts of Bexley, with a combined population of more than 300,000 people. Each site has a busy endoscopy department, each performing around 9000 procedures. Lewisham is the lead for Bowel Cancer Screening across the six local boroughs.

This post is a 10 PA appointment and the post-holder per week will be required to do 2 or 3 endoscopy lists, 2 or 3 clinics and participate in in-patient ward work reviewing acute gastroenterology admissions. The post holder will participate in the on-call gastroenterology rota.

The Gastroenterology Department at QEH currently includes 4 consultants, 2 specialist registrars, 2 clinical fellows and 3 specialist nurses with responsibilities for inflammatory bowel disease, viral hepatitis and endoscopy. At UHL there are 6 consultants (some of whom work part time), two registrars, a specialist doctor and two specialist nurses (IBD and viral hepatitis). A number of specialist gastroenterology services have been established at the Trust including ERCP, oesophageal physiology, capsule endoscopy and fibroscanning. Facilities at QEH include a recently expanded and fully refurbished endoscopy unit with four endoscopy rooms, a new decontamination facility and recovery area. Plans to expand the unit at UHL are at an advanced stage.

The trust is located in a pleasant part of South East London, with easy access to central London and the Kent countryside. There is a wide range of residential areas with excellent local amenities and schools.

Details of the timetable will in part be based on the areas of interest of the successful applicant, but will be based on a job plan of 10 PAs

There are 2 SPA sessions. This includes time for appraisal and revalidation as well as educational supervision of 2 foundation trainees.

The job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director but will be based on the following:

- Ward rounds (Daily rounds of the gastroenterology in-patients when ‘on the wards’ and including weekday morning AMU rounds and in-patient referrals)
- Off wards approx. 50% time, but with internal cover
- When off wards work substituted by ERS / RAS and endoscopy revalidation / additional in-patient work including referrals and urgent endoscopies (e.g. GI bleeds during working hours).
- Administration
- Out patient clinics
- Other sub-specialty work (Nutrition Team Rounds / capsule endoscopy / specialist interventional endoscopy work / IBD / Hepatology)
- Upper / lower GI cancer Multi-disciplinary meetings
- Job Planning, appraisal / revalidation continuing professional development, clinical governance, audit, mandatory training

- Educational Supervision
- On-Call for GI bleeding (1 in 10 with internal cover)
