The GLA is the strategic lead for major sporting events in the city and the first point of contact for anyone looking to bring their event to London. The GLA’s Major Sports Events Team is responsible for managing the GLA’s stake in major sports events in London, helping to unlock support from a variety of city stakeholders to ensure that rights owners can deliver their events in London to world class standards. The team builds and manages relationships with events owners, national governing bodies of sport, international sports federations, venue owners and key government agencies.

Following the excitement of the Men’s European Football Championship in 2021 and the Women’s European Football Championship last summer, London will host the UEFA Champions League Final on 1 June 2024. The match will take place at Wembley Stadium and the GLA is responsible for delivering several aspects of the project in line with its Host City obligations to UEFA.

The GLA is seeking to recruit into a fixed term post to lead the Champions League Final team to deliver London’s host city obligations to UEFA and The FA. The postholder will manage the Champions League Final team directly, overseeing all project streams. This includes planning and delivery of the Champions Festival, Fan Meeting Points and city activations, operational planning (including policing, transport, and readiness) and governance, procurement and budget.

**Principal Accountabilities**:

- Develop and lead the delivery of the GLA’s project plans for Champions League Final 2024 and ensure successful delivery of all aspects of the GLA’s obligations to the events under the UEFA Host City Agreement.
- Work closely with the Senior Manager, Major Sports Events, to ensure projects and approaches are aligned, and all project developments reflect the GLA’s Major Sports Events Strategy.
- Manage the GLA’s project budget for Champions League Final 2024.
- Develop partnerships with event owners, organisers, city agencies and senior government officials to ensure strategic delivery of the events are aligned amongst all stakeholders.
- Lead for the GLA on the development and strategic delivery of Champions League Final 2024, ensuring each event has a programme that meets Mayoral priorities and complements the GLA’s work across London’s diverse communities, drives economic value and showcases London as the best city in the world.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**:
**Technical Requirements/ Experience/ Qualifications**:

- Significant experience of managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects either in the public sector or in a commercial contract management setting with first-hand experience of grant/ contract negotiation, financial/budget management and performance monitoring.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of host city planning, resourcing and delivery.
- Experience of building and managing successful project sub-groups and teams.
- Experience of working in a management role within a comparable industry.
- Knowledge of English football, The FA and UEFA.
