To be Palliative and Oncology Chaplain in the Department of Pastoral & Spiritual Care, which provides for the pastoral, spiritual, ethical and religious needs of patients, staff, visitors and students within the Trust. To work with chaplains, honorary chaplains, administrators, religious visitors, students, Department volunteers, and other members of staff across the Trust including the Palliative Care team.

a. Discern and assess pastoral, spiritual and religious need of patients, relatives, and staff.

b. Carry out referral visits and pastoral support as required.

c. To be a pastoral, spiritual, religious, and ethical resource to the Trust and wider community.

d. In the first instance this appointment will be for a period 21 months.

e. The post is offered as a Band 5 to persons who do not have demonstrable Hospital or institutional Chaplaincy experience, but can be paid at Band 6 for those who have such relevant experience.

**Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification**
1. To provide for the spiritual and pastoral needs of patients, visitors and staff within the care of the Hospital, particularly for End of Life patients.

1. To visit patients, their relatives and staff in wards, departments and the Hospital in general and when requested, to give special ministrations to the seriously ill, the distressed and the dying.

1. To maintain activity records of patient visits, referrals and callouts, using the PSC database.

1. To be available to offer pastoral care and support to patients, relatives and staff, particularly at times of stress, loss, and bereavement.

1. To participate in staff training and induction courses where appropriate, and to seek other opportunities to raise awareness of the department throughout the Trust.

1. To be aware of, and sensitive to the varying religious and spiritual needs of people in a multi-cultural setting, and to assist staff in responding to these needs.
2. Be available for on call duties in line with 24/7 Chaplaincy cover to the hospital.

1 To have proven pastoral, spiritual and religious experience in complex emotional and distressing situations.

2 To have developed specialist knowledge of spiritual care issues, multi-faith issues and cultural care.

3 To understand spiritual assessment and care.

4 To have IT and communication experience.

5 Experience of working with volunteers people of differing cultures and faiths.

6 To be open to working collaboratively with colleagues from differing liturgical and sacramental traditions

7 To have experience of institutional chaplaincy issues, such as staff training, support, ethical issues, policy & community involvement.
