**Reports to**:Nursery Manager

**Main responsibilities**:

- Responsible for leading the 0-2 years (baby room)
- Safeguarding children ensuring excellent high quality childcare
- Plan activities appropriate to the age and development of the children in accordance to the EYFS
- To plan the day to day activities
- To manage the staff within the baby room
- To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others
- To develop positive relationships with parents, providing regular communication about their child's progress and well-being in accordance with EYFS standards
- To be responsible for tasks delegated by the Nursery Manager

**Main activities**:

- To assist nursery team in providing a friendly, caring and relaxing environment in order to encourage and develop children in our care
- To supervise staff and students in training and maintain a proactive and professional team
- To ensure all daily routines are adhered to and records kept up to date
- To maintain staffing levels, requesting cover when needed
- To plan and carry out activities in line with the EYFS, ensuring they meet with the early learning goals
- Further develop ‘free flow’ play
- Ensure assessments/evaluations are regularly completed
- Ensure children get the best start in life by working in close partnership with parents/carers to develop independence, confidence and self-esteem, building children’s resilience and wellbeing
- Support staff development and work closely with other staff and professionals
- To communicate with parents and other visitors in a calm, friendly and efficient manner
- To oversee an effective key worker system
- To liaise with other Room Leaders to provide a smooth transition for children
- To ensure specific duties regarding Health and Safety and fire procedures are understood and actioned
- To attend management meetings
- To undertake monthly staff meetings outside normal working hours when necessary
- To organise parent/keyworker and staff meetings
- To keep training up-to-date where necessary
- To carry out any ad hoc projects or duties as requested by the Nursery Manager
- To take reasonable care of yourself and others and to comply with the nursery policies and procedures

**Education & Qualifications**:

- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Children and Young Peoples Workforce or equivalent. (Essential)
- Paediatric First Aid (Essential)
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Desirable)

**Experience/ Knowledge**:

- A minimum of 2 years recent experience, working in a nursery setting, ideally already in a room leader role
- Excellent working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and current Ofsted statutory guidance
- Knowledge and proven practical experience of implementing good quality learning opportunities

**Skills & Attributes**:

- Empathy and understanding of children under five
- Excellent verbal and communication skills with children and parents
- Ability to write reports and keep clear and accurate records
- Effective team leadership
- Excellent organisational skills
- Administrative and basic IT skills
