**General Farm Worker**

Location

Low Knockglass Farm, Stranraer

Challoch Farm, Leswalt

Main purposes of job

Feeding calves, feeding youngstock, feeding dairy cattle

Working with cattle and other livestock and maintaining animal welfare

General yard work, maintaining cleanliness of facilities, cleaning out livestock and bedding

Helping with milking and covering shifts in milking parlour for staff holidays and days off

Operating farm machinery and in some cases, maintaining farm machinery

Key tasks

Calf rearing will include: Feeding calves from birth to leaving the farm and maintaining high animal health standards and cleanliness - for example cleaning feeders, ensuring calf milk machines are working appropriately, ensuring clean water supply, clean beds, calves are moved into age groups appropriately, any sick animals are identified and appropriately triaged. Other tasks as required.

Feeding and checking youngstock, ensuring facilities are clean and identifying animals in need of review.

Putting up temporary electric fencing, bringing cows in and putting out

Helping in the parlour with milking, pushing cows in, scraping, bedding, washing down

Farm machinery may include ATV, telehandler and tractor with or without implements

Filling feeder wagon and feeding cows

Extra duties maybe required at busy times as per needs of the business and exact work may vary from season to season.

Good communication skills

Flexible hours including weekend work/rota

Good timekeeping

Driving license desirable

Previous experience desirable but training will be provided.
