If so, SASA are looking for a Molecular Microbiologist to join its Diagnostics, Wildlife and Molecular Biology team. This role offers the opportunity for interesting, varied and at times fast-paced work in a high profile area.

The primary role of the Molecular Microbiologist is to assist the project leader (DK) deliver Externally Funded Commercial Research. Working closely with an existing A4 Researcher.

You will process samples using a range of microbiological or molecular techniques. These will deliver the principle aims of the project to develop novel microbial mixes that enhance plant growth and health and understand their impact on the soil microbiome.

SASA are based in the west side of Edinburgh at Roddinglaw Road, Gogarbank. SASA is housed in a new modern building within its farmland at Gogar. It has dedicated facilities including a staff restaurant and fitness room. The site is readily accessible by car. For staff commuting by public transport, SASA has arranged a morning and afternoon shuttle service linking SASA to the RBS headquarters at Gogarburn which is well served by the city’s bus network. These aspects make SASA a desirable working location.

**This is a Fixed Term Appointment for 2 years with possible extension. There will be no possibility of the role becoming permanent.**

**Responsibilities**:

- Production of starter cultures for commercial partners
- Quantification of microbial components using Realtime PCR
- Identification of isolates using molecular methods including sanger sequencing
- Maintenance of the projects culture collection
- Screening selected isolates against selected targets
- Ordering of laboratory supplies

Essential Criteria & Qualifications:
No specific qualifications required.

1. Current experience in a range of molecular techniques, including DNA extraction and PCR.

2. Practical experience in a range of microbiological techniques.

3. The ability to work as part of a team in a complex and challenging environment, balancing competing demands and prioritising, to ensure timely delivery.

4. The ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.

Due to the practical nature of the work this post is predominantly based at SASA with limited opportunities to WFH
