The National Space Centre has a history of running successful science and science fiction events (Science of the Time Lords, Return of the Garrison, Steampunks in Space etc.)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, committed individual with a genuine passion for events organisation to join our team.

You will work with multiple teams within the organisation to co-ordinate and run these world class events for wide and varied audiences.

**Job Title: Public Events Co-ordinator**

Responsible to: Head of Marketing

Objectives
- To help raise visitor numbers and maximise income generation through the successful co-ordination and management of public events.
- Work with the Head of Marketing to develop a schedule of public events in-house.
- Co-ordinate and deliver all public events, exhibitions and online sessions.
- Work with in-house teams, external suppliers and special guests to create content.
- Be responsible for the management of a budgets allocated by the Head of Marketing.
- To look at trends, current UK events, past and current in-house successes, to analyse and report on potential development ideas ahead of the curve.

Key tasks and responsibilities
- Research public interest, science anniversaries, space missions, popular culture and other event opportunities to feed into new event development.
- Work with the Head of Marketing to agree a full yearly programme of events.
- Manage the planning process for all public facing events ensuring that any deadlines and budget spends are controlled in line with the event plan.
- Manage the on the day delivery of each public facing event.
- Provide professional customer services through attending and delivering public events.
- Provide post event reports to relevant heads of departments.
- Liaise with Marketing, PR and Retail to identify promotional and commercial opportunities of public events.
- Monitor, on a regular basis, competitor activities and advise the Head of Marketing accordingly.
- To establish effective working relationships with other departments through regular events meetings.
- Identify and manage staff requirements for each event highlighting any specific skills required and ensure that skills are covered.
- Ensure that risk assessments are produced for each public event.
- Any other relevant duties as may be reasonably required by the Head of Marketing.
- Identify financial requirements for each event and manage spends within allocated budget.
- Ensure that full details of forth-coming events are communicated to and, where necessary, discussed with heads of other departments and relevant outside organisations.

**Qualifications**:

- Good standard of education

**Experience**:

- Experience of working in an event co-ordination role
- Proven experience in a similar role including demonstrable event
- Organisation.

Knowledge
- Understanding of public events industry
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and Power Point

Personal aptitude & skills
- A people person
- Good organisational skills and to be able to plan and prioritise workload
- Work well in a busy environment under pressure
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Communicate with a wide range of people, internally and externally
- Ability to work with the minimum of supervision and make decisions
- Ability to think creatively and anticipate/ solve problems to ensure the successful running of all events
- Disposition
- Enthusiastic and committed with a genuine passion for events organisation

Other requirements
- To be able to work weekends, evenings and support special events when required

- Degree
- Events qualification
- First Aid

Experience
- Proven track record co-ordinating and managing safe and successful public events

Knowledge
- Knowledge of space science, space history and science fiction events

Personal aptitude & skills
- Ability to negotiate

Salary - £20,000 to £21,500 per annum dependent upon experience

Hours of work - 35 hours per week. This will normally be from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, but there will be a requirement for some early morning, evening, weekend and bank holiday working according to the needs of the team. Time off in lieu will be granted accordingly.
