This is a very rewarding career which demands intense concentration. You will join a small, highly trained team that answer 999 emergency calls and mobilise fire engines, specialist equipment and officers and take an active part in a wide range of incidents. Capable of responding calmly and effectively to an emergency, you will use your excellent communication and keyboard skills. You will be expected to work a 12-hour shift pattern, which does include weekends and Bank Holidays. Our team at Hertfordshire Fire Control are ordinary people, from all types of backgrounds, who do an extraordinary job.
**About you**:
Initial training will consist of an assessment driven 4-5-week training and induction course followed by approximately 4 months shift-based training.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a common-sense approach when dealing with the general public, be able to type accurately to a standard of 30 words per minute and be able to work as part of a team.

**About the role**:
- To receive emergency and non-emergency telephone calls.
- To mobilise resources in response to emergency calls and/or requests for assistance using the mobilising system provided.
- To inform Officers and other agencies of incidents in accordance with Control Room instructions.
- To maintain statistical records and operational information e.g. officer availability and resource availability data.
- To operate computer information retrieval systems.
- To participate in the routine testing of equipment.
- To work at all times in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at appropriate levels.
