**Why work for us?**

Financial Investigators play a key role in supporting and conducting criminal and civil investigations where they seek to recover the proceeds of crime from criminals, via restraint and confiscation processes under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) 2002, alongside criminal convictions.

The role will also utilise civil financial investigation powers under POCA, including completing cash detention, account freezing and listed assets investigations, to remove assets and disrupt organised crime, where a criminal investigation may not be viable. Account Freezing Orders and Listed Assets Orders are relatively new powers that allow the removal of funds in bank accounts and property, such as designer watches and jewellery, if it can be shown to a civil standard that they are the proceeds of crime (or are intended for use in crime).

Financial investigators also undertake all powers associated with the role of a constable, including arrests, interviews, searches, conducting investigations and attending Court. Potential applicants will need the ability to present evidence effectively at Court in both criminal and civil proceedings, liaising with HMCTS, CPS, Prosecution and Defence Counsel.

As a Financial investigator you may also become involved in dynamic investigations such as kidnap and extortion, high risk missing persons and targeting serious and organised crime. This may involve liaising with other departments and agencies such as SOCU, ROCU, LPA’s, DWP and HMRC.

The post is an excellent opportunity to pursue a career in the ECU or to seek development into one of the following areas:

- Other specialist criminal investigation departments e.g. SOCU, OCSET, Cyber and also regional (ROCU) or national (NCA) roles
- Financial Investigation - FI accreditation is a valuable qualification both inside policing and with other law enforcement agencies and the private financial sector

Moving forwards ECU will be at the heart of disrupting all serious and organised crime and therefore this is a great opportunity to be part of a real change in how we target criminality. As force we are investing resources so that we can reflect the current national priority around dealing with economic and serious organised crime. The role will also provide:

- A good working environment based at Police Headquarters (Hindlip)
- Flexible working arrangements, which allow some agile working from other locations
- Office Hours - Monday-Friday 0900x1700

If you would like an informal chat about the role, please contact ECU Supervisor Helen Bradley or DS Rachel O’Brien on 7772212/7772585.
