About the role

The University has been building a strong procurement capability and is currently implementing following a strategic review a number of management initiatives. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Buyer to assist in further developing these initiatives.

Your role will be to provide purchasing support and commercial expertise to all the University’s internal customers and, by leveraging competitive advantage with our suppliers, ensure the University achieves best value for money.

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will be responsible for liaising with departments within the University to identify business requirements, advising on those business requirements, negotiating and finally contracting with the selected suppliers. You will also lead in managing categories of spend and developing relationships with suppliers. This may include project managing the implementation of management projects.

About you

We need a Category Buyer with a customer focused approach along with excellent analytical, influencing, communication and project management skills to drive best value for money approaches. The confidence to interact with people at all levels and build constructive working relationships, coupled with a determination to influence change, is essential.

You will be either a full member of CIPS or prepared to study for the qualification.

**The Buyer will**:
support end users by analysing requirements to develop accurate specifications and identify and liaise with suitable external suppliers to obtain quotes for purchases
process requisitions in an accurate and timely manner by utilising existing University framework/contracts, raising new Purchase Orders or arranging payment via Procurement Card, ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures and sourcing strategies
investigate and resolve invoice price variances by liaising with end users and external suppliers to ensure prompt supplier payment

have relevant procurement experience, ideally in the public, regulated, Higher Education sector with knowledge of legislative framework and will demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development
be passionate about delivering excellent customer service and possess excellent interpersonal skills for effective interaction with internal customers and external suppliers
be self-motivated and thrive in a time sensitive, high volume environment with a flexible attitude and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
