Southampton, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Do you have a passion for working with young people and the systems around them? Are you an experienced Clinical Psychologist keen to bring your knowledge and skills to an inpatient setting, working in a vibrant multidisciplinary team where psychological thinking and work is highly valued?
**Then we would love to talk to you.
We are currently recruiting for a Clinical Psychologist to join Austen House. Austen House is a 14-bedded Low Secure inpatient unit for adolescents, which is part of the Specialist Services directorate of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. The Low Secure Service sits alongside well-established Medium Secure and General Adolescent Units at Bluebird House and Leigh House, respectively. There is a shared attachment and trauma informed model of care across all three hospitals, led by the psychological therapists.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a comprehensive and high-quality service for young people aged 12-18 years experiencing a range of complex presenting problems. This post offers close multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working within a relatively new team comprising of Psychologists (including a Principal Clinical Psychologist and team lead), Psychological Therapists, Family Therapists, Creative Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, Social Workers and Nursing.

The role will involve the using your psychological skills to contribute to the understanding and treatment of psychological distress and risk. There will be opportunities for direct clinical work with young people and their families and carers, within individual and group settings. There will be opportunities to be involved in the development of models of care and new ways of working informed by a recovery-based ethos, as well as trauma and attachment theory and developmental perspectives. You will contribute to a psychologically informed environment via formulation, consultation, training, teaching and reflective practice. An active engagement with activities of continuing professional development is encouraged and the post offers opportunities to use research skills for audit, policy and service development.

Austen House is set on the edge of the New Forest in a tranquil rural setting, but within a few miles of the city of Southampton which provides excellent transport links.

Close links exist with the Doctoral Training Programme in Clinical Psychology at the University of Southampton and so opportunities to become involved in the facilitation of external teaching and to supervise Trainee Clinical Psychologists, are available. Clinical, operational and professional supervision is provided by the Principal Clinical Psychologist for the service.

Informal enquiries are welcome and visits to the unit are encouraged. Please contact Dr. Jackie Preston, Divisional Lead Psychological Therapies on
