We are now recruiting for a Engineering Commercial Manager to provide a lead role in the operational delivery and monitoring of contracts and supplier performance within Rolling Stock, along with the governance of the engineering efficiency programme.

Key Duties

Rolling Stock Commercial
- To manage all aspects of procurement and contract management for the Rolling Stock department, developing collaborative supplier relationships at a strategic level.
- To develop the Rolling Stock materials and services budget worth c. £.5m pa using a comprehensive bill of materials and usage data to predict reactive maintenance requirements.
- To develop procurements plans which consider the relevant asset life cycles, maintenance regimes and obsolescence issues to realise an optimal stock holding and/or optimal overhaul / repair programmes.
- To report regularly to the General Manager for Rolling Stock / Engineering Director on all commercial aspects of Rolling Stock, including forecasts, actual expenditure, suppler audits and performance.
- To be aware of KAD's franchise obligations relating to materials management and provide advice and governance to ensure compliance and mitigate any potential financial risk.
- To provide support to the Stores and Purchasing teams ensuring a best practice approach to materials management is adopted, particularly in respect of KADs Asset Management Information System, DLR Metro.
- To support the Rolling Stock department with continuous improvement activities and provide financial reporting on efficiencies to the Engineering Director.
- To commercially manage relationships with contractors and suppliers to maximise benefit for KAD and to look for opportunities to grow the business through partnerships and new initiatives, and work to take advantage of those opportunities.
- To support KAD's best practice approach to Asset Management through the development of relevant Asset Management Plans (strategic, maintenance, improvement) and correct use of KAD's Asset Management Information System, DLR Metro.
- This role will be carry L1 authority to approve stock purchases for the KAD business.

Engineering Efficiencies
- To lead and support the implementation of KHIM projects where identified
- To provide support to relevant stakeholders in the development of their performance plans aligned to the delivery of the efficiency programme objectives and monitor the delivery of those plans.
- To facilitate support to General Managers to identify opportunities within their asset areas to further optimise performance and identify opportunity for sustainable efficiencies.
- To provide strategic advice in relation to optimising performance with consideration of commercial implications of the franchise agreement, asset performance and other direct and indirect costs.
- To provide advice to ensure robust measures are in place to provide reassurance to the business of its controls to identified performance improvements and efficiencies.
- To lead on innovation and influence relevant stakeholders to challenge the status quo with pace and rigour with the ability to effectively manage the subsequent change programme with consideration of all relevant stakeholders and risk.
- Strategy deployment to secure further investment return within the life of the franchise in addition to the planned Efficiency Programme.
- To consider the impact of CFR's when identifying methods to improve Operational Performance and demonstrate cost and risk analysis in decision making.

Essential/Desirable Experience/Qualifications

Essential
- Working towards or has obtained a degree in Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Excellent IT skills and knowledge of relevant software including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of the rail industry and related supply chains is essential, including commercial and contract administration processes.
- Experience of managing contract compliance and assessing/minimising business risk.
- Experience of maximising business potential by developing opportunities.
- Demonstrated negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience of operating within complex contract arrangements in a commercial environment with a focus on delivery.
- An understanding / experience of a complex material supply chain environment with safety critical implications.
- Experience in business / continuous improvement processes which will have a positive impact on how this affects the commercial aspects of the business.

Desirable
- Full current driving licence.
- Knowledge of SAP or Maximo.
- Experience within rolling stock environment.
