Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients even if employed less than full-time and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.

Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care, supporting professional activities and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
Promote and develop the perioperative care services across the trust.

Clinical
(a) Provide an anaesthetic service as a member of the Department of Anaesthesia. This will be across both Preston and Chorley sites depending on Directorate service requirements.
(b) Undertake pre-operative assessment of patients as appropriate, together with post-operative management and follow-up of patients in appropriate cases.
(c) Undertake weekly theatre sessions as allocated of which a proportion will be delivered flexibly over each week, to maintain the high level of anaesthetic service delivery required by the Trust. These may include evening sessions, or, rarely, a weekend session (by mutual agreement).
(d) Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
(e) Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the theatre environment.
(f) Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

The Vascular Centre was launched in January 2015, centralising all major arterial services into the Centre based at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust with support of the three arterial partner hospitals at Blackpool, Morecambe Bay and Wigan Trusts. The Vascular centre covers a population of approximately 1.5 million in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

There is a large but well integrated team with 10 vascular surgeons, 7 Vascular Interventional Radiologists and a core of approximately 15 consultant anaesthetists doing regular sessions. The workload of the anaesthetists involves Aneurysm surgery both Open and EVAR, Carotid Endarterectomy, Limb revascularisation involving both endovascular and bypass techniques, amputation and renal vascular access.

Anaesthetics as a department are active throughout the perioperative period, providing CPEX testing, preop counselling and assessment and regular involvement in MDT decision making.
