**Salary**: £25k

**Background**:
Academic studies have shown the media’s reporting of Muslims leads to an “atmosphere of hostility” against Muslims (corroborated by a number of polls). The Centre for Media Monitoring was set up by the Muslim Council of Britain in 2018 to:

- Create an evidence base of how Islam & Muslims are reported in the national print and broadcast media.
- Develop insights on problematic areas of reporting and make recommendations through evidence-based reports, guidelines, submissions and training.
- Advocate change through constructive engagement with the media, regulators, politicians and other key stakeholders
- Empower communities and build capacity to proactively engage with the media to change the narrative

**Role Purpose**:
To support the Media Monitoring Analyst to monitor the media, submit complaints, collate data and research topics for reports. The Assistant will also support the work of the Director/Advocacy Lead in administrative work, compiling documents for media outlets, and organising stakeholder meetings & roundtable discussions. By removing administrative responsibilities from the wider team, this will provide greater opportunity for the talented team to expand their successful work to-date.

**The Role - Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Support the Media Monitoring Analyst in monitoring and analysing online and broadcast media reporting of Islam and Muslims, in accordance with the established methodology; submit complaints as & when they arise; help research & write documents & reports
- Update website & compile content for updates for social media
- Support the team in organising & taking notes / documenting meetings, events and co-ordinating engagements as required.

**The Person**:

- Process-driven who is thorough, consistent and rigorous in their output.
- Consistent output & excellent timekeeper who can work methodically and efficiently.
- An understanding of news and media landscape and how Muslims and Islam are covered.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
- Desirable: social media, website and design skills
- Desirable: Insight into all key
