A very exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Consultant Midwife. This is a joint role between Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT) and Three Counties School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Worcester.

As a Consultant Midwife you will work closely with the head of midwifery to assist in the development of the professional midwifery agenda, to achieve consistency in practice. The aim is for the Consultant Midwife to be a role model ensuring all midwifery practice is underpinned by a philosophy of maximising health for service users and families.

As a Consultant Midwife you will foster a climate of research, innovation and excellence by immersing yourself in clinical practice and being a key part of the wider multi-disciplinary team. You will use your knowledge and high-level skills to inform practice decisions and support colleagues where standard protocols do not apply.

The successful applicant will directly contribute to transformational change agendas which will ensure the safest possible birth for women, birthing people and their families.

We are a large team comprising of midwives, maternity care assistants, maternity support workers and obstetricians. Each member of the multi-disciplinary team has a voice that can be heard and most importantly listened to.

As an exceptional, experienced senior midwife you will become an essential part of that supportive multi-disciplinary team, providing inspirational leadership, working with key stakeholders to support transformation within our service
- To be a role model for all staff by practising midwifery care to the highest standard.
- To work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
- To use knowledge and high-level skills to inform practice decisions.
- To inspire and support midwives to reach their full potential as autonomous practitioners.
- To develop and maintain evidence-based guidelines for holistic care.
- To influence the development of new health care initiatives.
- To be instrumental in the development of midwifery practice and contribute to the local and national agenda in relation to the trust vision.
- To work closely with the Head of Midwifery to ensure all policies, local and national are assessed, benchmarked and implemented.
- Demonstrate leadership in inspiring professional development from students right through to the senior midwifery team.
- Provide expert midwifery support in review of serious cases and ensure action plans are adhered to.
- To network locally, regionally and nationally to share best practice and benchmark services.
- To share best practice through publications, seeking opportunities to attend/present at national level.
- Monitor clinical outcomes for those receiving midwifery led care.
- Develop programmes of education to ensure staff have the knowledge to respond appropriately to changing clinical scenarios.
- To take a lead role in integrating Continuity of carer.
- Support the University of Worcester strategy for research and development.
- Contribute to and influence the clinical governance agenda
- Work with the quality team to ensure ongoing compliance with the Care Quality Commission standards.
- Support the Chief Nurse and the Director of Midwifery with the delivery of a wider corporate Midwifery/Nursing agenda.
